Java Web Developer

Developer, Software Engineering
Position Summary:
The Developer, Software Engineering, will be primarily responsible for development and support of software for the applications developed and maintained by our client's Managed DNS Services. He/She interacts with members of other project teams to transfer knowledge from other technology domains and leverage efficient design and reusable components. This position includes work with peers, business partners and Quality Assurance (QA) for project based implementation.
Essential Responsibilities:
· The primary activity will be hands-on software development, using Java/C/Perl/PHP on custom hosted DNS services, including public REST and SOAP APIs, core server services and web portal interfaces.
· The candidate will also perform support and maintenance for production applications.
· The candidate is expected to be hands-on and a self-starter on these technologies, requiring little guidance.
· The candidate hired is expected to work with peers within the department on a regular basis on multiple project implementations.
Preferred Professional and Technical Skills:
· Minimum 2 years of overall web-based application development work experience, using JAVA/C/C++/Perl and any standard RDBMS database on Linux/UNIX platforms.
· A minimum of 2 years on C/C++ and embedded SQL programming on Linux/Unix.
· Should have extensively used web technologies including AJAX, CSS/XSL, JavaScript, PHP, XML with a working knowledge of JWS/AXIS/XSD/WSDL web service development and Web 2.0 technologies.
· Strong working knowledge of Perl and Shell programming is required.
· Should have used CVS/SVN or comparable version control system.
· Excellent communication and analytical skills with an open mind to different opinions from peers and business partners are expected.
· Solid experience working in a disciplined systems development life cycle is required.
· Candidate will be expected to work independently in all phases of the systems development life cycle from requirements through testing.
· Should be adaptable to learning new technologies and able to work in a challenging environment.
· Strong understanding of software development methodologies, including use of case development and formal UML requirements techniques.
· Knowledge of LDAP or other security products is a plus.
· Knowledge or experience working with PowerDNS or other DNS software is an asset.
Minimum Education/Experience:
· Must have an undergraduate (B.S.) degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or other relevant training with at least eight years experience programming in a professional environment..

Web Site Developer
§ As a member of Professional Services team work on creating web solutions for existing and new online media clients such as Toronto Star, toronto.com, wheels.ca, eyeweekly.com etc.
§ Execute technical implementation, integration and customization of our proprietary CMS to client sites
§ Extend the CMS functionality and build custom site solutions based on the CMS API
§ Ensure cross browser compatibility and web standards on all solutions.
§ Participate in application testing, documentation and deployment.
§ 2-3 years demonstrated web development experience (provide URLs of sites worked on), preferably with .NET
§ Experience working with and developing Content Management Systems (CMS)
§ Experience with Information Architecture and building user interfaces for customer facing applications
§ Experience with high volume consumer web site development
§ Understanding and interest in Web 2.0 concepts – online communities, blogs, wiki, UGC etc.
§ Strong knowledge of front end web technologies: XHTML, CSS, OO JavaScript, AJAX and Web Services
